Howie’s Trade Record Post-2017

All General Mangers are not perfect, while many Eagles fans know the teams draft record of late lets take a look at the Trades made post Super Bowl. Any time a big player comes up in trade rumors you see the picture of Howie with binoculars and the term HowieSZN all over the internet. Let’s take a look at the deals made...

2018- 4 Trades

Traded WR Torrey Smith to Carolina for CB Daryl Worley

This move was made for salary cap reasons and Smith (17 rec-190yds- 2TD) played 11 games in his last season in NFL with Carolina, but I don’t have to remind fans of the 2018 contest where Eagles blew a 17-0 4th qtr lead and a big play was made by Smith (4rec 61yds) who had his best game against philly. Eagles acquisition CB Daryl Worley, who one month later would be arrested and subsequently released ending his time in Philadelphia.

Traded WR Marcus Johnson and 2018 5th rd pick to Seattle for DE Michael Bennett and 2018 7th rd pick

This trade was made to sure up the DL in 2018 as Vinny Curry left for FA and Eagles would trade little used WR Marcus Johnson and a 5th rd pick (would become punter Michael Dickson). Bennett would have 9 sacks in 2018 and the 7th rd selection (became OT Jordan Mailata). I would chalk this deal up as a win.

Traded 2019 7th rd pick to Chicago for S Deiondre Hall

This was end of preseason trade to add depth for Philadelphia, Hall played 13 games mostly on Special Teams and was cut in 2019. Chicago drafted RB Kerrith Whyte with the 7th rd selection (now playing for his 3rd team in 2 yrs).

Traded 2019 3rd rd pick to Detroit for WR Golden Tate

Trade deadline 2018 the fanbase was very excited to get a veteran WR and gave up a 3rd round selection in 2019. Tate made a play here and there but was not used they way we expected. Tate in 8 games had 30 catches for 278 yards and 1TD (some Greg Ward Numbers), as the Eagles let Tate go to FA and received a Compensatory 4th round pick (became OL Jack Driscoll). Lions would select S WIll Harris in the draft who started 6 games for them last season. The thing about trading this selection was the players who were available if they had kept the pick (LB Bobby Okereke, WR Miles Boykin, CB Jamel Dean, S Mike Edwards, DE Maxx Crosby and RB Alex Mattison).

2019- 9 Trades

Traded DE Michael Bennett and 2020 7th rd pick to NE for 2020 5th rd pick

Michael Bennett wanted a contract extension and his money owed was too much for the Eagles to give a 34 year old DE. He would bounce from NE to Dallas and showed flashes like in 2018 (6.5 sacks in 15 games). The 7th round selection traded to NE would be traded to DET. Eagles would use their 5th round pick on WR John Hightower.

Traded 2019 6th rd pick to Tampa Bay for WR Desean Jackson and 2020 7th rd pick

The reunion has not gone as planned, expecting the DeSean Jackson of old stretching the field or even the 2019 season opener where he caught 2 deep TD passes. Jackson has played 7 games (22 rec- 314 yards- 2TD) the last 2 seasons accompanied with Core Muscle injury, hamstring, and ankle fracture. Eagles used the 7th round selection in the Goodwin trade you will see later in this article. Tampa Bay received the Eagles 2019 6th round choice (WR Scotty Miller). Miller with the TB WR unit has (27 rec- 414 yards- 2TD this season).

Traded 2020 6th rd pick to Chicago for RB Jordan Howard

(USA Today)

Jordan Howard gave the Eagles a power back who started the year playing well but suffered a stinger that sidelined him almost half the season. Howard finished the year with 119 rushes, 525 yards and 7 total TDs. Chicago acquired a 2020 6th round selection which they flipped to eventually select WR Darnell Mooney (33rec- 351yds- 2TD) in separate draft day trade with Philadelphia.

Traded 2019 (25th, 127th, 197th) picks to Baltimore for 22nd (Dillard)

During the 1st round of the 2019 NFL draft the Eagles swung a deal with Baltimore to move ahead of Houston and select OT Andre Dillard. Dillard showed some flashes at LT but when he was moved to RT after Lane got hurt mid-season his confidence took a slight hit. The Season Ending injury this year does not help him either. Baltimore would select Marquise Brown (22nd), DB Iman Marshall (127th) and QB Trace McSorley (197th) in the deal.

Traded 2019 7th rd pick to Colts for DT Hassan Ridgeway

This Draft day deal netted the Eagles a backup DT who unfortunately has played only 14 games in 2 seasons because of 2 season ending injuries, Ridgeway has showed promise as a rotational DT. Colts used the selection for C Javon Patterson (no longer on Colts roster).

Traded G Ryan Bates to Bills for DE Eli Harold

A preseason player for player trade, Eagles dealt OL Ryan Bates (played 18 games with Buffalo- backup OG), Eagles acquired DE Eli Harold who was cut during camp.

Traded DT Bruce Hector to Cardinals for S Rudy Ford

Rudy Ford is a very good ST player and has mostly played on that unit during the last 2 seasons, while Bruce Hector would be cut by Arizona and ended back with Philadelphia. So basically the Eagles traded nothing for Ford.

Traded S Johnathan Cyprien and 2020 7th rd pick to Atlanta for LB Duke Riley and 2020 6th rd pick

Eagles added a player in Duke Riley who fell out of favor in Atlanta. He became a core special teamer and has seen extensive time on defense for Philadelphia. The draft pick they received was involved in the Goodwin trade made during the draft. Atlanta needed a Safety and Eagles were able to get more than you would think for a player signed off the street. Cyprien would only play 1 game before a season ending injury, and the 7th round selection (P Sterling Hofrichter).

Traded 2021 4th rd pick to Cleveland for DE Genard Avery

(USA Today)

During the 2019 NFL Trade deadline Eagles made a deal for little used Cleveland DE Genard Avery who has played 14 games and has 2 sacks for Philadelphia. Cleveland was able to get a 2021 4th round selection which was a deal many fans cringe at thinking about.

2020- 2 Trades

Traded 2020 3rd and 5th rd picks to Lions for CB Darius Slay

(Mitchell Leff/Getty Images)

Eagles finally got their #1 CB in Darius Slay and he is as advertised for the Eagles secondary this season. The Lions netted themselves a 3rd (OG Jonah Jackson) and 5th rd pick (eventually traded to acquire higher pick that became Jackson).

Traded 2020 6th rd pick to 49ers for WR Marquise Goodwin and 2020 7th rd pick

(Lachlan Cunningham/Getty Images)

Draft Day deal that consisted of adding a speedy WR in Marquise Goodwin and 7th rd pick (OT Prince Tega Wanogho) from the 49ers for Eagles 6th rd selection (TE Charlie Woerner). Goodwin opted out of the 2020 season because of the family reasons pertaining to the virus, but could see him fight for a roster spot in 2021. Woerner and Prince Tega Wanogho are too young to judge their careers right now.
