The Eagles lost to the Rams in uninspiring fashion, 37-19. Dropping their record to 0-2.
Here are some observations from the loss.
Carson Wentz: Most concerning about the loss were the struggles of Carson Wentz. He looked out of sync again on Sunday. Missing open receivers, forcing the ball into bad spots, and turning it over twice.
Wentz ended a third quarter drive, with the Eagles going for the lead with a forced interception in the end zone, on first down. Another example, of his poor decision making so far this season.
These first two games have arguably been the worst stretch of his career. Wentz has started the season with 2 TD/ 4 Int and a 64.4 QB rating. His performance to start the season, has been lackluster, to say the least.
Defense: The entire defense was disappointing in the loss today. Jared Goff was able to pick them apart in the first half, starting with 13 consecutive completions. The defense allowed 16 first downs and 21 first half points. They created very little pressure on Goff, coming up with only 1 sack, from DE Brandon Graham.
Rams TE Tyler Higbee scored three TDs, including a 28-yard score, over LB Nate Gerry to give them a 31-19 lead in the 4th quarter. Defensive Coordinator, Jim Schwartz looked completely outcoached by Rams Coach, Sean McVay in the first half. The young offensive guru was able to have his way, with creative play calling and Schwartz unable to adjust or come up with an answer.
Jalen Hurts: The rookie made his NFL debut today, and was featured as a decoy in the offense for 3 plays. He was successful in drawing the defense’s attention, on a 1st and 10 in the second quarter, setting TE Dallas Goedert up for a 10 yard gain.
Miles Sanders: The lone bright spot of the day for the Eagles. He looked very good in his first game back from injury. He rushed for 95 yards and a TD on 20 carries. He also added 3 receptions for 36 yards on the day.
Looking forward, the NFC East appears to be a weak division, it is too early to panic after an 0-2 start. Hopefully the Eagles are able to start to figure things out as the season progresses. The Eagles host the Cincinnati Bengals next week, as they hope to pick up their first win of the season, and improve to 1-2.
