Report: Eagles restructure CB Slay's contract

The NFL league year is set to start March 17 and GM Howie Roseman is working to bring the Eagles under the salary cap as the date gets closer.

The Eagles have cleared up more cap space by restructuring CB Darius Slay's contract, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

This cleared up $9.14 million in cap space, reducing Slay's 2021 cap hit from $15.75 million to $6.61 million.

Slay signed a three-year contract extension through the 2023 season a year ago, in a trade from Detroit. The deal is worth $50.05 million with $30.05 million in guarantees. He was due a base salary of $12 million in 2021 before the restructure.

The Eagles create cap space by converting Slay's base salary into a bonus, lowering the cap hit in 2021 by pro-rating the bonus over a set of years down the line.

OverTheCap had the Eagles at around $43 million over the cap before this move, so expect more contract restructures to come heading into the start of the 2021 league year in less than two weeks.
