Seranthony Dominguez to Begin Rehab Assignment

Seranthony Dominguez, one of the Phillies best young bullpen arms, hasn't pitched for the Phillies since 2019. Dominguez is coming off Tommy John surgery, and he is set to begin a rehab assignment sometime next week. This is massive news for the Phillies who remained hopeful they could get the young reliever back this season.

The plan is that Dominguez joins the Phillies in late August or early September if all goes well. Dominguez had a high velocity fastball sitting around 98 mph before his injury, and it is reported that he is sitting around 93-94 mph right now. This is a promising sign that the 26 year old RHP may be able to make a full recovery and get to where he was pre-injury. Dominguez also throws an elite Slider to compliment his fastball. Dominguez has the velocity and stuff that the Phillies bullpen lacks.

The Phillies are linked to many players as the Friday trade deadline approaches such as Craig Kimbrel and Richard Rodriguez. Either pitcher would give the Phillies a boost to the end of the bullpen. Dave Dombrowski has made it known that the Phillies will be buyers at the deadline, and pitchers will be at the top of their list. An addition of Dominguez to go along with the deadline moves the Phillies may make, will give the Phillies more trustworthy arms in the bullpen. This all depends on where the Phillies sit in the standings when early September rolls around.

If Dominguez makes a full recovery and can avoid any setbacks, he will again be a major part of the Phillies immediate and long-term plans.
