There are a lot of different emotions to be felt after a tough 30-28 loss to the Ravens.
One of those is frustration, after a valiant comeback was made only to fall short on a botched 2 point conversion. The Eagles now sit at 1-4-1 with 3 consecutive NFC East games coming up.
Another emotion that was felt is a sense of pride in watching Carson Wentz show his toughness by fighting on every play with 3rd and 4th string players. Wentz and the Eagles could’ve easily given up after being down 3 scores in the second half but they didn’t.
1 - Travis Fulgham is the real deal
Travis Fulgham finished with six receptions for 75 yards and one touchdown. He is the second Eagle to catch a touchdown in each of his first 3 games with the Birds. The only other Eagle to do it? Who else but T.O.
2 – More injuries to key starters
Zach Ertz, Miles Sanders, and Jack Driscoll all left the game with injuries. MRIs on Monday ruled Ertz out 3-4 weeks with a high ankle injury. Miles Sanders will miss the Thursday night game against the Giants with a knee injury.
3 – Carson Wentz leaving nothing in the tank
This was Wentz’s best game of the season so far. He finished with 2 passing touchdowns/0 interceptions, 213 passing yards, and a rushing touchdown. He brought the Eagles back from 17-0 to nearly pull the upset. All while being under heavy duress the entire game. He was sacked 6 times and took 18 hits. A gutsy effort from Carson Wentz.
4 – First half mishaps
This could’ve easily been won if the Eagles avoided these crucial mistakes:
· John Hightower wide open deep drop on third play of the game
· Miles Sanders wide open drop in the end zone
· Jake Elliot 52 yard missed FG at end of first half
5- Doug Pederson
Doug Pederson clearly continues to inspire this team. Whatever he said in the locker room at half time worked because this team fought and came back after being down 17-0. Fans laughed when Howie Roseman and Jeff Lurie named emotional IQ as one of the main reasons for his hire back in 2016. The team’s effort at the face of adversity proves the importance of emotional IQ.
6 – The next 3 games will determine the Eagles’ season
The next 3 games will determine the trajectory of this season. Their next month is:
Week 7 – vs. New York Giants (1-5)
Week 8 – vs. Dallas Cowboys (2-3)
Week 9– BYE ( Get Healthy)
Week 10 - @ NY Giants
The Eagles need to win at bare minimum 2 of the next 3 games, the Cowboys game at home and one of the Giants games.
7– The Eagles should win the NFC East
Over the last 2 weeks, the Eagles have proven they can hang tough with 2 premier teams even without most of the starting offense. With Dak Prescott’s injury, the Eagles appear to be a step above each team in this pitiful division.
